August 2010 Prayer note

Dear friends,
Summer is camping time for a lot of our ministries in Latin America. For Young Life, this means a time when a lot of kids (about 70,000 worldwide) have the most amazing week of their lives, as they have a ton of fun, get to experience Jesus’ love and best of all, hear the gospel. In the past few weeks we’ve hosted camps for teens in Argentina, Colombia, Haiti, Nicaragua, Costa Rica and many other countries and still have camps occurring in countries like Venezuela and the Dominican Republic. Please pray for the thousands of kids who’ve been exposed to the gospel and made commitments to Christ in the past few weeks in these camps. This note sent from the DR gives you some idea of the hurdles many of these teens have to overcome and their leaders walk through with them as they come to Christ.
This week we have had two youth with disabilities come to camp with us! It was a great week full of surprises for all.

Jose was a youth who was involved in gangs and drugs, until one night he got shot in the leg. Since then he has been confined to a wheelchair and will probably be in one the rest of his life. Jose has been at camp with us all week. Please pray for change in his heart this week!

Gloribel or "Nina" as people fondly call her, is a 16 year old who fell in a hole when she was little. No one ever took her to the doctor and now she has severe limp which she will also have for probably the rest of her life. She has been confined to her house for the most part, since it is shameful, as a person with disabilities, to be out and about. Gloribel has some ire towards her family as they didn't take care of her leg problem at an earlier stage of life. Please pray for heart change in Gloribel this week as she experiences the best week of her life.

Thanks for your prayers and support for this ministry and especially for these teens and leaders we’re privileged to work with. I’ll be headed to Guatemala later this week (which is my first trip since Jack was born) and we have a marriage and leadership conference in the Dominican Republic with leaders from nine different countries later this month that Jenn and Jack (4 weeks old and he already has a passport!) will be coming to as well, so pray for us as we begin to handle travel with our newly expanded family.

God Bless,
Scott, Jenn, Caroline and Jack
